In a novel initiative, the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department is all set to launch an online web portal on Friday to facilitate online permissions for various works across the State. The PR Department, after studying existing online practices in some States, developed a new portal for granting permissions for construction of buildings, tap connections, recording contract works in Measurement Books (MBs) and trade licences.Already around 10,000 villages have been provided computers and internet connections well in advance to enable smooth functioning of online transactions.

“People in the villages are forced to visit gram panchayat offices several times to get building and other permissions.

With the launch of the online service, however, permissions for villagers will now be just a click away,” Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao told Telangana Today on Thursday.Elimination of graftThe online portal will further reduce time of applicants and eliminate the scourge of corruption, the Minister said, pointing out that earlier, the applicants had to spend money and waste precious time running around for permission.

“Once the applicant submits his or her request through the portal giving all details, including survey number, extent and building plans, they will get a receipt and the gram panchayat officials will visit the site for inspection,” the Minister said.Once the site inspection is completed by the competent authority, the status will be posted in the portal and the applicant can obtain permission certificate.

Similarly, traders who wanted to obtain trade licence can visit the web portal and submit detailed applications.Civil contractors who have completed their works will have to submit details pertaining to the MB through the web portal for approval by competent authority.

Village secretaries who are entrusted with these jobs have been trained by the PR Department.

In most of the major gram panchayats, computer operators have also been appointed to maintain portal and upload permissions.

“It will further enhance digital literacy,” Krishna Rao said.
