In 55 days between August 17 to October 10, Hyderabad received heavy rains for 18 days that ended up throwing normal life completely out of gear in the city.The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in a press release issued here on Wednesday said since the city can withstand and cope a rainfall of 2 cm, the heavy rains within an hour coupled with other factors such as encroachments of lakes and nalas resulted in inundations of basthis and colonies.On September 14 alone Malkajgiri was hit by the highest rainfall of 20.15 cm followed by 17.4 cm in Kapra, 11 cm in Mallapur while Bollaram and Balnagar received 10 cm rainfall.

On the same day, another 20 areas received 5 cm to 10 cm rainfall, the civic body said.
