The cable component is part of the 764.38 metre bridge that is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 184 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid in April by the MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao and the civic body has been endeavouring to complete it within 18 months.Crucial aspects of the cable bridge have been two pylons in the middle of Durgam Cheruvu and to ensure that the water did not obstruct the work, two temporary tapper dams were set up on the river bank, the GHMC said in a a press release.

However, due to the rains in the last few days, the lake has been receiving heavy inflows and hindering the work progress. The aquatic weed was removed from the lake with Rs 50.80 lakh under Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme and a pond was constructed with Rs 90 lakh for the immersion of Ganesh idols to protect the lake from pollution.Pre-cast bridge:Meanwhile, the GHMC has decided to hold a meeting with Traffic police, TSIIC and others on transportation of the pre-cast bridge components.

The 26 metre long and 6.5 metre high pre-cast bridge was being constructed at Kondapur and moving the 170 metric tonne heavy bridge has become a challenge mainly due to the power cables on either side of the road, the release said.
