An 11-year-old boy drowned in a tank on Friday morning while retrieving a religious book in the city.The boy Mohammed Faiz, a native of Lucknow was pursuing second year ‘Hifz’, a five-year course at a Madrasa Kanzul-ul-Uloom in Shaheennagar.

On Friday Faiz along with four of his friends visited 'Sandal ki Bowli' tank at around 9am.

They saw a book floating in water.

Faiz removed his shirt and jumped into the tank to retrieve the book and drowned.Seeing his friend drowning, they alerted a local, who then called police.

Police with the help of expert swimmers tried to fish out the body but failed due to heavy rain.The police are still probing the issue and trying to retrieve the body.
